1988
I'am not positive sure just where this Picture belongs. 1988 or 89?
I dont Remember. I know there should be an entire set of Pictures
I took on this day. And I think Fred & Ginger were here intown at
this time. Or at least I thought they were. I can not find the
Other Pictures that go with this one. Its at Mom & Dad's House.
The New Wheels and Tires are on the Chevelle. And My Dog Chief is
there. The city had began to Build the Britt Parking lot. But not
Paved yet. The Green Car is my Dad's.
This is the very Last Picture I have of my Dad. Taken at the House in
Jacksonville. The Trailer is Fred & Gingers. They came down from Portland
Knowing that it would be the last time they would see my Dad. He was diagnosed
with Lung & Brain Cancer in the first week of August 1988. This Picture is
About the middle of September. He had whent through a little bit of
Kemo Treatment. And that would only Buy Him a little more time.
3-Months is all they gave Him. In this Picture He is doing pretty good.
But as soon as Fred & Ginger left and whent back to Portland. the next
week. He whent down hill Pretty fast. He Died on 11/20/88.
RIP Dad...
August 1 1988. 6:00 a.m. My Freind Roger and I began the long Trek up Mt
McLoughlin. Or MT Pitt. As it used to be known. We Planned the trip out well
in advance. We were well Prepared. We started off at 6:00 a.m. Knowing it
would take about 12 hours to go all the way to the top and then get back to
the Car in one piece. It took us 12 & A Half Hours. And we made it back safely.
On August 5th. Just Five Days after our Hike. My Dad of 59 Years was Diagnosed
with Teminal Cancer. WOW. What a Shock. I had barley Recovered from that difficult
Hike when given that News. Well anyway I took three rolls of film druring the
Hike. I'am going to Share 7 of those Pictures here. Just the Pictures that I
took on top of the Mountain. they are the Best. In this First one.
Roger and I are just a very short way from reaching the Top. A Troup of
Girl Scouts had just came down from the Top. You can see them makeing there
way down the Hill behind roger. You can allso see how far down the Hill
the Tree-line is. Mt McLoughlin is 9.495 FT. That is way High.
We are now on Top. And what you see there is what is Left of the old
fire-look-out built up there Years ago. I dont know what it originally
Looked like. What was left there at this time was built out of
Materials from the Mt its self. This is not a really good veiw of the
look-out. We will see better ones. If you look closely. You can see
Roger sitting inside the Look-out.
This was my First Trip up McLoughlin. Roger Had been here before.
I had never seen Pictures of it either. Roger told me McLoughlin
Accually Has 2-Tops. I Kept trying to Picture that. In this
Picture I'am standing next to if not inside the Fire-Look-Out
taking a picture of the Second Top. Its True. there are 2-Tops
up there. And this Year they are Separated by the top of a
Glacer that continued way down the side of the Mountain. The
Second top. (with-out-look-out is Smaller.
In these Next 4 Pictures I'am over on the smaller top taking Pictures back
at the Bigger Top. The entire top of the Mountain and down the Hill somewhat
Simply is Nothing but Giant boulders. It is very difficult to walk up there.
And there is really No Place on top to Camp. And I dont think You would want to
do that. I'am sure it gets very windy up there at Night. What little bit of
The Glacer you can see in these Pictures is Nothing compared what is farther down
the Hill. The shape of the Look-Out now takes on something you can work with.
I saw evedence of some type of Building that sat on top of the Rock Structure.
But there is Really Nothing you can Pickup and Hold in your Hand. I dont know what
Happend to the Rest.? Before I could even finish typing this little section out.
I did a Quick Google Seach and just a Minute ago found
This.
I have not even had time to Read it over yet. Looks interesting. Now I know
what was Originally Up there. In the Last Picture here we started getting
Hit with Clouds Rolling in. And I Mean Fast moving clouds. So We Started back
down the Hill. Both of Us Feeling Sad that It was time to Leave. SHortly
After My Dad Died of Cancer 11/20/88. Roger Moved to Porland and began working
in His computer Career. He had been going to collage here in town before that.
I saw Him one last time in I think It was 1994. I was going through a bad time
then with Teri. I think He was down here in Medford for only one or Two Days.
Years Later. When My Sister Christy Whent to Her Class Reunion. She And Roger
Graduated the Same Year. She Told me She Found out That Roger Had Died a few
Years before. I was so shocked. He & I didnt stay in contact. My Fault.
Because of the Garbage I was going Through. I was not wanting to be to
Freindly with anyone then. A Few Years ago My Sister & I Tryed to Research
Rogers Death. Evendently. His Death was By His own Hand... I'am so sad to
Think of that. He was a Fun Freind. I wish I had Known and had been there for
Him in His time of Need..Sad...
The First Picture I Posted here in 1988 was From this Set. I could not find
The others untill Recently. I said then I didnt know where they belonged.?
I Now know. They belong in 1989. But since I started the first one here.
Lets just continue with the Rest. I also thought that Fred & Ginger might
Be here in Medford at this time.? Agine I was Wrong. And I also thought
World Peace was a Posibillity.? NO. I didnt Sorry. Kidding agine.
I have 7 More Pictures to Post here now from that Roll of Film. Now that
I see them all I know what was Happening now. It was Spring time. Fairly
Warm out side. And a Huge Storm was Brewing over Head. That is why it is Dark
looking. I took my Camara and whent up to the Cemetery and got a few Shots
of the Storm Conditions. The way the Sun was trying to break through
the clouds made for some really Spooky type pictures of Jacksonville.
Agine. transfering the Pictures to computer files took away some of the
Clearness. sorry.
In these last 6 Pictures it is Winter time in 1988. If I remember correctly
we had kind of Bad winter that Year. I Remember at some point that winter.
My Garage Door foze to the Ground. And I could not get it opened
for many many days untill the Temprature got above Freezing. That is not
the case in this Picture. That Must have been later on.? In the rest of the
Pictures I'am up at Mom's House. Hanging out with The Dog's She was very
Happy to Have the Three Dogs there for company. My Dad's old Car sitting
there covered with Snow. Mom didnt Drive. So we would sell that later on
in 1989.
