3/23/2010
This Day started out like Most of My Days back in March. I Had NO Job. Nothing to
do Most every day. So on this Day after the Early Morning Service I found it was a
Nice Sunny Day. Or about to be. Still very Cold out side Before I even left the
Church Parking-Lot I decided I wanted to go take a Trip up to Tallowbox Mt. Seen here
in this First Picture taken in the Parking-Lot.. At the End of My Finger. Tallowbox Mt is
the Smaller Mt to the Right of the Picture. Lets go up there.
As The Crow Flys. From The Church Parking-Lot to the Top of Tallowbox is between
6 and 7 Miles. But Driving the Switch-Back Curvy Road is more then 20 miles to the
Top Here in these Next two Pictures. I have driven about 14 Miles. I'am now well off
the Paved Road And not to far from the Mt. I will Leave the Car Here and walk just up
around the Corner and get a Nice View of the Top with The Sun shinning on it from The East.
Here I got a couple of Nice Zoomed in Views. Or is it Veiws?. I never Know.
And a few other Shots. The last time I was up here I got stoped by snow on the
Road about another Mile ahead. I'am pretty sure this time I will NOT Run into that
Problem. But You Never Know.
Here is a few More Shots up the Road just before we come to the Saddle between
Mountains. The Saddle is where I began My Hike the last time I was up Here.
That is where the Old Road begins.
I have driven about a 1/4 Mile past the Saddle and Have now come to the Exact
spot I was stoped by Snow last time. Looks Pretty clear to me... Let keep going.
I got about 3 miles to go before I will arrive at the Place I will Park the Car
and begine My Hike to The Top..
I have Now arrived to that Area 3 Miles ahead. This is the final Parking area.
My Car has been turned around and is Facing back down the Road I just came up.
The Top of The Mountain is about 1500 feet up the Hill to the left of this Picture.
Directly Behind me is Star Gulch Rd going down the Hill to the East. In the Next
two Pictures I'am standing at the Beginning of the Look-out Rd.
This is The Spot I Used to Park My Chevelle back in the Early 90's This is Where
The Look-Out Road begins from Star-Gulch-Road.
Click Here to see My Chevy Parked here in 1991.
My Car, My Walking Sticks, And The Road I just drove up. Before I begin My
Trek to the Top of the Mt. I first want to walk down Star-Gulch-Road and try to find
The old Road that I Hiked up a few Weeks before. Remember I could NOT Make it all
the Way to the End of that Trail/Road. I Beleved I was Very Close. So Now I want to go
and Find where I left off at. And for some reason Here I didnt take any pictures of My Decent
down Star-Gulch. How ever I did find what I was Looking for. Lets go check it out.
I have walked down Star-Gulch-Road just about 1/4 Mile and found where the
old Road/Trail connects with Star-Gulch-Road. And Now I have Walked down The
Old Trail/Road and Have found the Spot I stoped at a few weeks before. I was indeed
just about a 1000 feet from making to the end of the Trail/Road. I was Just to tired
to coninue on that Day. Ok. Well Lets head back up the Hill and begine the Trek to the Top.
Now I begin the 1000 feet walk back up the Old Trail/Road and will very soon meet
up with Bigfoot. NO. Just Kidding. No Bigfoot around Here. I Hope.? We will soon Meet with
Star-Gulch-Road. All this small Stretch of Trail/Road We see How Dence the Forrest is here.
And at some point in the Past I see a Fire Swept Through Here. It Must have happend before I
Was Working in the Look-out back in the Early 90's This Is really a nice Shaded Peacefull area.
I really hated to leave. But I WONT get to the Top of the Mountain unless I put one foot in front
of the Other. So Lets get going Dan.
Here I'am at the Place The Old Trail/Road Meets Star-Gulch. Looking down
Star-Gulch-Road. We See the Top of Tallowbox Straight ahead. Something is
Catching My Eye down there. It's a Sign Placed right in the Middle of a
Motorcycle Hill Climb That "off roaders" have started. I dont have to walk
down there to Know what it Says. But I will anyway.
Before I walk all the way down there. I will turn around and look at the
Trail/Road Meeting Star-Gulch-Road. A Attempt was Made to Make the Trail/Road
Impassible to 4x4's But Clearly some stupidly have to try it.
Walking down there to the Sign Now. And Taking a few Pictures of Me with a
(I was Hoping) Nice Back ground.
Ok Lets begine to walk back up Star-Gulch-Road to where I left My Car. Its
About a Quarter Mile walk to That Point. By the Time I do get Back to My Car.
I'am feeling a little tired and Not Really into the Hike to the Top of the
Mountain. But By Golly. I Came all this Way up here. Its a Beautifull Morning.
And Even if I have to Drag My Self up there on My Hands & Knees. I'am going to
Summit Tallow-Box-Mountain today.
Here I'am back to Where the Car is Parked And the Road to The Top takes off
From Star-Gulch-Road. Here I'am looking back down Star-Gulch-Road. We See a
Nice Early Morning Sky filled with the Remains of Jets flying To & Fro. And the
Top of Dutchmans Peak in the Distance.
Here is the Look-out-Road. Now Suddently. I'm not really into this Hike. But
I'am going anyway.
Once You start up the "Very Steep" Look-out-Road. You will Run into a Gate
About 300 Feet ahead. Its a good 1200 feet or More to the Top of the Mountain.
Very Steep. And a Very Narrow Road.
A Few Hundred More feet on. And this is what I look like. I'am Beat. Tired and
Worn out. But once I get up to the big Corner and get around that. I get My second
Wind and become Unstopable. In other Words. I Brought JESUS Along with Me on this
Trip. And HE got Me through to the Top of The Mountain. As HE is Faithfull to all ways
Be with Us. If We Invite HIM to Come along.
I continue to work my Way up the Steep Narrow Road. Slowly. Once I make it to
The corner. I know I will make it the Rest of the Way. Once around the Sharp
Corner. The Road takes on its Steepest Grade. But still Not to Bad. And I start to find
Some Patches of Snow Now. I knew the Look-out was NOT there on Top any more. It used
to be visible from the Corner. I'am sad to think that it is NO longer there. But As allways
Life goes on.
WOW. I'am beat agine and out of Breath. But I'am going to Make it to the Top.
You Can see just how Steep the Road gets here As we aproach the Top. And Soon
The Top Becomes visible. We are there...
The Road levels out just for a few feet. Then takes a Sharp turn to the Right then
Back to the Left and then comes out on top of the Mountain. This is a Hard part of
the Road to drive. Impossible for My Car.
I'am now Just about 50 Feet from where the Look-out once stood. Back in 1989
I took a Picture of The Look-Out standing in this same place During a Snow Storm.
Just a few more feet and I will be on Top of Tallowbox Mountain. Its Beautifull Day
up here. I will hang around up here for about 30 minutes Enjoying The Beautifull View
The LORD has givin Me on this Day. The Fenced in Area is Exactly where the Look-Out once stood.
Now That I'am on Top of The Mt. There Really is not a whole lot to talk about.
Its just NOT the Same place I spent an Entire season watching for fires.. with out
My Look-Out-Tower. It was Destroyed by Vandles in 2006. I'am Sad... Back then it
Was a State Operated Fire-Look-Out. Today.? I dont know? Far up the Tower You see Here
in the Pictures. I see Camara's moving around. I know there is such a thing as
Fire Seeking Camara's. The View is Beautifull from up Here. Lots to see.
The Surrounding Hills and Mountains. The Rouge Valley down below. Roxy-Ann.
What is Left of the Out-House down over the side of the Mountain.
Mount McLouglin towing over all other Mountains.( Allmost 50 Miles to the East.
The Crater-Lake Rim is Partually Visible. Mt Thielson. Mt Balily a 100 MIles to the
North. And The Town of Ruch below. The Church is down there. Hard to see. but is Visible from here.
Just so Many things to look at. But Mostly Just in Awe of our wonderfull GOD.
And So thankfull for giving me The ability to Walk up here agine. HE is so good to Us.
Seen here inside of the Fenced in area. are two big Cement Blocks. There were
four of those Blocks that The Tower set upon. These are the only two that Remain.
I'am Glad someone decided to leave them there as a Reminder of what was once
here on Top of the Mountain.
I have Began the walk back down the Hill. I have only gotten about 200 Feet down
The road when suddently I Realized I walked past what was once upon a time a
Horse Stable. It is so over grown now. I missed it on the way up. There is No more
Structure. Way back in the olden Days. They kept Horses up here for the Look-Out
People. I'am sure a Much diffrent look-Out as well.
I have Now walked Way down the road. I now see My Car through the trees. Its still down there.
Well This Hiking Trip is Just about over. This was a Fun trip. A very Nice Day. And
The last Hiking Trip I took Just before Returning to full time work agine. I Doubt that
I will have time for anymore Trips like this untill The summer is over. Just going to
Be to busy with My New Bakery Job. I have one more Small Picture Taking Trip in April to
Up load Now. Then that is it. But I will be back agine out and about with the Camara
some day...
